European & International Studies at King's

European Union The Department of European & International Studies at King's College London launched in September 2011.  It builds on the achievements of European Studies, which since 1992 has earned an internationally-renowned reputation as a dynamic and challenging programme for those who want to deepen their knowledge and understanding of modern Europe. In recognition of this, we were, together with the Central of European Law and the Department of Political Economy, designated by the European Commission in 2009 as a Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in European Law and Governance.

Simona Talani also holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Political Economy awarded by the EU. The Department has been expanding in recent years and has particular strengths in the analysis of European integration and governance, especially economic and monetary union and foreign policy, as well as international political economy with the appointment of three new colleagues in the last two years.

The department currently runs two BA and three MA programmes: BA European Studies, BA European Politics (starting in 2013), and MA's in European Studies, European Public Policy and International Political Economy.

Our dedication to international excellence in research and teaching is reflected in the high calibre of our students, recruited from a large and highly-competitive field of candidates from:

  • across the UK
  • continental Europe
  • the United States
  • Asia
  • the Middle East

After graduation many of our students have gone on to work for governments, international organisations or continued with further study around the world, from Brussels to Bosnia, Geneva to California, and Tokyo to Washington.
