Our Research Degrees
We offer research supervision for MPhil and PhD dissertations on a variety of areas. Specialisations include European and national identities, European and national political thought, modern social theory, contemporary European and world history, globalisation, international political economy, and the politics of culture.
If you are interested in pursuing the relationship between the European and national/regional levels, we offer particular expertise in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Spain (including Catalonia), Portugal and Greece.
As well as research programmes specific to European and International Studies, candidates studying with us can also choose PhD programmes that are not offered by the department, for example the PhD Politics programme, with the agreement of their EIS supervisor and the relevant programme director. Applicants should discuss this with their proposed supervisor and applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
We offer guidance on how to write a good research proposal here.
