Briefly, tell us about your background and career up to this point?
I have worked at King’s for 3 years now, previously in the School of Global Affairs in SSPP and now as Student Experience Manager in FoLSM! Before this, I studied for a BA Geography degree at Durham University and worked in various roles there after my graduation, from Assistant Principal to various student experience and alumni development roles. I also studied a certificate in fundraising with the Institute of Fundraising, and I currently chair the student experience officer network to share best practice across the faculties.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
We are currently gearing up for welcoming our new students next week! There are lots of events going on next week and we are including more sessions with our welcome ambassadors this year, so I am excited for this! Follow us on Instagram for more updates @folsmstudentexperience
Do you have any current projects that you’d like to tell us about?
Yes, I am currently part of the KCL Community Fridge team! We have launched a fridge at Strand Campus to provide a solution to food from events that is too good to go but would otherwise go to waste, and to support students. We also run a pantry of dry goods that students are welcome to take what they need from.
We received the Sustainability Gold Award this year, and hope to expand this to Guy’s Campus in 2025-26. If you are interested in getting involved, feel free to contact me.
What is something positive that happened to you over the last year?
I have recently completed the KCL Aspiring Trustees Programme and have successfully interviewed with a charity to be appointed as Chair of their newly forming Youth Board! I am really excited about this opportunity, and excited to see where it goes this next year.
What do you think people in the School would find most surprising about you?
I am a published poet. I was 10 and it was an incredibly deep & meaningful poem about putting rubbish in the correct bins.
What do you do with your time outside academia/work?
I love making the most of living in London - a museum and theatre trip, a long walk with a coffee or watching the rugby/cricket with friends!
What is your favourite part of your role?
I love the creativity and variety of student experience. Across a day, week, and year, you are involved in such different projects from events to communications, volunteer management to student engagement and community building to name just a few! I also think that it is a privilege that we get to see students across all stages of their journey.
It is fun to see students who were perhaps less confident at Welcome go on to present at Graduation!
