5 minutes with Naomi Ademosu-Fika

Naomi Ademosu-Fika is the Operations Officer for the School of Life Course & Population Sciences. We borrowed 5 minutes of her time to ask about her career, what it was like to see her first concert in two years and much more.

Briefly, tell us about your background and career up to this point?

I graduated from the University of Essex with a degree in International Relations. I went on to be a Creative Access Intern for a gender diversity firm, before finally becoming a Programme Coordinator for the organisation’s development programme. I then went on to work for a creative arts charity Creative UK, starting as a Project Assistant. Later, I began supporting their Education and Skills Partnership segment, leading on all the organisation’s student-related activities including student events, content production and data management for creative HE students from across the region. This experience made me keen to work directly in Higher Education and keep an eye out for opportunities in the sector, which is what lead me to King’s.

What do you think people in the School would find most surprising about you?

Probably that I am adopted!

What advice would you give to your 18-year-old self?

Try not to overthink a situation you assume is a problem. Things you often believe to be the most important thing right now might not matter to you as much in a few months and years. Also, don’t be afraid to try new things!

What do you do with your time outside academia/work?

I tend to watch too many TV shows on my laptop and read in my spare time. I also really enjoy going to see live music when I can.

What are you most looking forward to this year?

I am looking forward to moving out of my current rented room in a few months and finding somewhere new. My current landlord is hilariously terrible at landlording.

What is something positive that happened to you in 2021?

For the first time in two years, I went to a live concert with friends towards the end of 2021. We got to see the singer Mahalia perform and then we hung out like old times which was excellent.

What is your proudest accomplishment?

Probably developing a student speed mentorship scheme that resulted in creative students making practical connections and insight into industry. And this was despite doubting my ability to create the scheme in the beginning!
