Terms of reference

The Student Experience Sub-Committee (SESC) is responsible for the oversight of the student experience of the University, advising College Education Committee and Academic Board on:

  • The strategic development of policies relating to the student experience.

  • The level of college compliance with external regulatory bodies such as the Office for Students.

  • Issues and good practice identified via student surveys (internal and external).

Terms of Reference

  1. Oversight of conditions of the Office for Students (OfS) Regulatory Framework: B2 Resources, Support and Engagement

  2. Reviewing results from student surveys (internal and external), identifying any areas of concern that require action plans to be developed and monitoring the outcomes from those action plans.

  3. Review Graduate Outcome Survey results, identifying any areas of concern that require a review of practice (faculty or centrally).

  4. Oversight of Careers and Employability Strategic Plan.

  5. Oversight of provision such as academic skills to students.

  6. Oversight of digital education enhancements and impact on student experience.

  7. Monitor and advise the College Education Committee on the academic policy and regulatory framework of the University relating to the student experience via reviewing and recommending approval to Academic Board and/or College Education Committee new and/or revisions to existing policies and procedures.

  8. Monitoring of the implementation of the University’s Access and Participation Plan.

  9. Monitoring of the Turing Scheme and Study Abroad arrangements.

  10. Oversight of the resources/student experience with collaborative activities that relate to flying faculties and branch campuses.

  11. The committee will receive annual reports relating to:

  • (i) Enrolment and Welcomeii.Student Funding
  • (iii) Student Disability and Inclusion
  • (iv) Counselling and Mental Health Support
  • (v) Student Successvi.Inclusive Education
  • (vii) Personal tutoring
  • (viii) Library services
  • (ix) Graduation
  • (x) Academic Skills

Membership

  • Chair - Academic Director Student Success

  • Deputy Chair - Nominated by the Chair from among the members of the Sub-Committee

  • One Faculty (institute/School) Member – Normally nominated by the Dean/Vice Dean of Education from membership of their Faculty Education Committee.

  • Faculty Student Experience Managers (2 x Health, 2 x Arts and Sciences, 1x King’s Foundations)

  • Academic Director, King’s Academy

  • Director of Academic Quality

  • Director of Digital Education

  • Director of Student Operations

  • Director of Student Services

  • Director of Service Delivery

  • Director of Student Success

  • Associate Director (NSS/PTES Strategy)

  • Education Capabilities & Engagement Manager, Education & Student Solutions

  • Director of Student Support, King’s Digital

  • KCLSU Sabbatical Officers - Vice-President for Education (Health), Vice-President for Education (Arts and Sciences) and Vice-President (Post Graduate)

  • Head of Education Governance – Secretary to the meeting

Others to be invited when relevant to role. Alternates are required for all members.

Reporting

  • The Student Survey Management Group reports into SESC
  • The Sub-Committee reports into College Education Committee (CEC)
