Doctoral Research Studentships
King’s Business School invites applications for funded, full-time PhD studentships to start in the 2024-2025 academic year. We welcome applicants interested in undertaking research in any of our areas of expertise.
Funding
Home/EU and International studentships are available to students with outstanding research potential. Studentships cover tuition fees for three years, the pending submission status fee and, a tax-free stipend of approximately £20k/annum (2023-2024 rate is £20,622), with small, annual inflationary increases.
In order to prepare students for academic careers, individuals receiving a studentship will be expected to undertake some teaching and/or marking activities in the School.
Any teaching undertaken will attract payment in addition to the stipend. Students also have access to a generous training and conference fund.
Eligibility
All applicants for the full-time PhD programme are eligible to apply, including Home, EU and International students.
You will be required to live in the UK throughout your full-time studies, although it is understood that you may need to spend short periods overseas while conducting fieldwork.
Application process
To apply for a studentship, you must complete the below before the studentship deadline, which is 15 December 2023 at 17.00. Please read the guidance on how to apply to the doctoral programme carefully before making your application.
- Identify a potential supervisor who is willing to supervise you. Supervisors will ask to have an interview with you. State in the interview that you would like to be considered for the King’s Business School Doctoral Studentship.
- An application to the PhD programme, via King’s Apply.
Please note that applicants ashould have identified a potential supervisor and should have had an interview before submitting the application.
Assessment Criteria
Studentship applications are assessed according to the following criteria:
- Evidence of the candidate’s individual research potential. E.g. how strong are the references, academic transcripts, and other credentials such as prizes, academic awards or publications, and, where appropriate, professional qualifications and/or relevant experience?
- The quality and fit of the proposed research. E.g. are the research topic and questions well formulated? is there a feasible plan of action? does the work offer genuine scope for doctoral research? how well does the research fit with themes within the research group, the School and the wider College or, alternatively, does it make a contribution to developing an emerging programme of research in the School? Does the work offer opportunities that will lead to societal or economic impact?
