Speak to a Mental Health Practitioners
Same day appointments are term time only - the process is under review
Our Mental Health Practitioners are a welcoming and non-judgmental space for you to discuss the issues you are experiencing and receive advice, information and recommendations to meet those needs. If needed, the Mental Health Practitioner may suggest referrals to our counsellors, consultant psychiatrist or other external agencies.
The service abides by the Data Protection Act to maintain client confidentiality. We only share information internally or externally with other professionals on a ‘need to know’ basis and in negotiation with the student. However, on occasion we may need to extend confidentiality when we believe someone may be at serious risk of harm to themselves or others.
Speaking with Mental Health Practitioners are NOT appropriate in the following circumstances:
- If you feel you require emergency medical support. Therefore if your situation is urgent and you require immediate medical assistance please contact your GP in the first instance or seek help via your nearest A&E department.
- They are not one off counselling sessions and are therefore not intended to replace the normal application and assessment process for counselling. If you think you require counselling, please apply directly to the service for a counselling appointment. Same day appointments are not a fast-track in to the counselling service.
- For students wanting to request letters as evidence to support Mitigating Circumstance applications. We are able to provide such letters only under circumstances where students are receiving ongoing support from the service.
