Advent & Christmas 2025
Christmas is marked by both cultural and religious events in the UK. For Christians, Christmas marks the birth of Jesus in a stable more than 2000 years ago, and what is called ‘The Incarnation’, meaning God-is-with-us i.e. God has become human and knows what it is like to live a human life full of human joys and struggles.
Advent is the season of preparation and waiting for Christmas, a time when Christians contemplate the miracle that is to come, as well as doing the active preparation for the feasting of Christmas time (mainly shopping and cooking!).
Culturally, Christmas has become a wonderful way to celebrate community and family; to decorate our homes, businesses and streets; and to bring fun and light into the darkest time of the year.
Traditional Christmas celebrations include decorating Christmas trees, eating mince pies, and pulling Christmas crackers (with a small gift and a groan-worthy joke inside). Often, people like to sing Christmas carols or attend church services - even those that don’t call themselves Christians.
The Chaplaincy team includes Chaplains of many different faiths and traditions, and we like to celebrate both the cultural and religious aspects of Christmas. This means that all students and staff at King’s are invited to join in with all of the events and activities hosted across the campuses, whether you are a Christian, have another faith, or have no faith or religion at all. So, do have a look at all of the different things that we have on offer and come along. You don’t need to book a place, unless it says otherwise below.
Whatever you are doing this festive period, we hope you have a joyful, restful and peaceful Christmas – and a very Happy New Year!
