War Studies Futures Scholarship 2023-24

Tailored exclusively for first-year undergraduate students enrolled in the BA War Studies programme, this scholarship is more than just financial aid; it's a beacon of opportunity for those eager to nurture talent and foster success.

With a total value of £15,000 distributed over three academic years, recipients can embark on their educational journey with confidence and focus. This scholarship encompasses a bursary of £4,000 annually, supplemented by a faculty contribution of £1,000 towards tuition fees.

What are the eligible criteria?

  • Currently enrolled as a first-year undergraduate student in the BA War Studies programme, having commenced it in September 2023.
  • Maintain residency in the UK and meet the criteria for Home fee status.
  • Demonstrate an annual assessed household income not exceeding £42,500.
  • Granting consent to Student Finance England to divulge financial details to the College.

Women in War and International Politics

Submissions are wanted for publications for the Women in War and International Politics (WiWIP) blog, which relates to gender within conflict, security, and international politics. Articles wanted for publication are around 800 to 2,000 words. These articles are required to have an abstract, as well as citations in the form of the Harvard style added within your text and in brackets.

Also, film or book reviews, poetry, and interviews for the E-Journal should be between 500-800 words. These should be emailed to wiwip-kcl@kcl.ac.uk

Deadline: 1 March 2024 for publications to be added on 8 March 2024.

War Studies: Hertog Foundation

Offered by the Institute for the Study of War in Washington DC, students can immerse themselves in a 2 week-long programme surrounding relevant themes to War Studies. Extensive referencing to military theory, history and current conduct of conflicts will be made to enhance the knowledge already acquired. Themes include Clausewitz, the Battle of Gettysburg and the future of war.

A financial stipend of $1,500 will be awarded to successful students to help with housing, food and transport costs.

Please follow the instructions attached in the link below to apply. A CV, university transcript, a personal statement of approximately 1,000 words, a writing sample of 20 pages and two academic references are required.

Alternative courses are also available for students interested in Political Studies. This programme will engage students in the analysis of public affairs, economics and foreign policy.

A financial stipend of $2,500 will be awarded due to this programme lasting up to 6 weeks. The same procedures listed above are also required when applying for this programme.

OSAC UK Country Chapter

This free event is hosted by the Overseas Security Advisory Council (OSAC) UK Country Chapter within Google’s offices in King’s Cross on 12 March 2024 between 10:00 and 14:00. This Council is a public-private partnership between the American Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Services (DDS) and other security professionals. The event will be a one-day workshop on Crisis Management and will be useful for those interested in the security and policy-making sector.

Students are asked to write a short personal profile on their background, the reasons for wanting to attend the event and the importance of attending an event to their future academic and professional aspirations. This should be sent to Donna Lupton alongside your email and number. To note only 60 places are available.
