'Pharmacy and Pharmacology' at King's ranked third in the world
‘Pharmacy and Pharmacology’ at King’s College London has been ranked third in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject, published today.
King’s has a strong tradition in pharmaceutical science, pharmacology, clinical pharmacology and therapeutics. The College’s current strategy in this area – From Molecules to Medicine – is led by the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science and enables researchers from different disciplines to work together towards the discovery of novel medicines and formulations that can be evaluated in patients in the clinic.
This research ranges from pharmacological and chemical studies that allow novel drug targets and new chemical entities to be identified, through formulation and drug development, to clinical trials and the use of medicines by patients.
King’s delivers an innovative suite of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Pharmacy, the Pharmaceutical Sciences and Pharmacology that reflect these research strengths.
The QS rankings are designed ‘to help students identify the best universities in the world in their discipline’. For this edition of the rankings, 3,002 universities were evaluated, of which 689 institutions were ranked, and the provision of 10,639 programmes. Data on reputation and research citations are used to inform these rankings.
Professor Peter Hylands, Head of the Department of Pharmacy and of the Institute of Pharmaceutical Science, says: ‘I am delighted to note the significant rise in our position in the QS rankings. It is a testament to the commitment and dedication of our staff and students, and the reputation of our research and teaching. I congratulate and thank them all.’
Professor Sue Brain, Head of the Department of Pharmacology, continues: ‘This exceptional result is further evidence of the quality of our research-led education at King’s. This builds on our recent award by the British Pharmacological Society for Putting UK Pharmacology on the Map. It also complements the 95 per cent student satisfaction rating that we received for Pharmacology in the most recent National Student Survey.’
King’s College London is currently ranked at 19th equal in the world by QS. The College features in the world's elite (Top 200) institutions in 19 of the 30 subjects featured in this year's QS World University Rankings by Subject.
