Yu-Lin has a first degree in Bio-industrial Mechatronic Engineering from the National Taiwan University, and graduated from King’s College in 2009 with an M.Sc. in Biopharmacy. He is self-funded in his PhD – which is supervised by Dr Dave Barlow, Professor Bob Hider (in the Chemical Biology group at King’s), and Dr Chris Lorenz (in the Materials Research Group, Division of Engineering at King’s).
Yu-Lin’s research project involves computational studies of metal ion chelating agents. By means of ab initio (quantum mechanical) calculations, Yu-Lin is attempting to predict the pKa’s of chelating agents and also their iron binding affinities. In addition, he is performing various forms of molecular dynamics simulations – some of these carried out as an alternative approach to pKa prediction, and others to model the passage of the chelating agents across biological membranes..
