London SE1 9NH
Sadaf is a Biochemistry graduate from the University of Karachi in Pakistan. She commenced her PhD here at King’s in December 2007, with funding provided by the Pakistani High Commission. She is supervised in her research by Dr Dave Barlow and Professor Peter Hylands (in the Chemical Biology group at King’s).
Sadaf’s research project has involved the construction of a computer database of the phytochemical constituents of herbs used in traditional Indonesian medicine, and the virtual screening and in vitro testing of these compounds in a search for aldose reductase inhibitors to provide new forms of symptomatic relief in diabetic patients.
On the basis of her in-silico screening, Sadaf has successfully identified several novel inhibitors of aldose reductase.
