Dr Billy Christmas

Billy is a Senior Lecturer in Political Philosophy and director of the PPE programme at King’s College London, in the Department of Political Economy. His research interests are in rights, property, and political authority, and he teaches in subjects across political and economic philosophy. Billy earned his PhD at the University of Manchester and was a post-doctoral fellow at the NYU School of Law. He is interested in supervising PhDs in the following areas:

• Freedom, equality, and the state
• Liberalism
• Economic/distributive justice

Research

Billy's work engages with the philosophical analysis of property rights and state authority. Billy is interested in how abstract theories of justice ground them in normative ideals of freedom and/or equality, as well as their application to areas such as political and economic development, urbanism, and environmental governance.
