To make it easier to navigate your way around King’s campuses, we’re fixing old, confusing room and building signage, introducing an easier-to-understand system.
Here’s what you need to know about it:
1. Changes won’t happen all at once
There are over 550 doors to re-label across King’s campus buildings, so changes won’t happen overnight. From August, new signage will start appearing across the King’s Building on Strand Campus, beginning with LG2, LG1 and Ground level; before moving to Levels 2, 4, 6 and 7. From there, the team will start moving through the rest of Strand campus, with all buildings and rooms completed by 2027.
2. Three is the magic number (and name)
Once all signage has been updated, every King’s building will have three-letter abbreviation and a unique colour code. These will be used in your timetables and on digital maps, making finding your classrooms a lot easier. All rooms will have a numerical code too, and these will be consistent across buildings, with numbers ascending or descending in a logical order. Signs will feature icons and a new accessible King’s font, with careful attention to text size, colour, and placement to ensure signs are easy to read.
3. Some room numbers are changing completely - double check where your classes are
Sign changes will see some rooms change name completely – a room you took classes in last academic year might now be called something entirely different. It's always important to check your timetable regularly for room changes, but this year, it’s especially important. Take some time to check where your room is on our campus map – don't rely on your knowledge of last year’s room name. And leave plenty of time to get to your teaching room just in case.
