Free period products available across our campuses

At King’s our aim is to support the equality and dignity of our whole community and believe no one’s studies or work should be impacted by not having access to period products. This is why we want to help tackle period poverty by making free period products available across our campuses.

Students and staff will be able to help themselves to pads and tampons, available in a number of toilet facilities across our campuses, to see them through the day.

The products, supplied by Hey Girls, are made from 100% certified organic cotton, sustainable bamboo and are chemical-free to protect you and the environment. For every box of products King’s buys, Hey Girls donate one to someone in need. They have already donated millions of products in their mission to eradicate period poverty in the UK, improve access to quality products and increase education around period health. This partnership supports the university’s Socially Responsible Procurement Policy which seeks to ensure our funds are spent in a way that benefits our students, staff and society more generally.

Free period products are part of the wider support and benefits available for students and staff to help with the cost of living. Free period products will continue to be available on request at KCLSU hubs and in King’s residences.

I am immensely proud that King’s has committed to installing free sanitary products across their spaces and campuses. This is an issue that is incredibly important to me and has been a core demand of my manifesto as KCLSU President. This historic step towards our community development that commends King’s values, builds on the work of previous KCLSU student officer teams and will not only benefit King’s students, but also the whole King’s family. As set out in the King's Community Charter, we want our community to be a place where everyone is treated fairly and with dignity, and where everyone feels a sense of belonging and safety. The UK government funds the distribution of period products at school, and the Scottish government funds the provision of period products at universities. With no such national university provision in England, King's has decided – following KCLSU's lead – to make free period products available on our campuses, to remove the barriers to students participating fully in their studies, and to support staff in the workplace.– Professor Adam Fagan, Vice President (Education & Student Success)
