New UK immigration law changes could affect you. Here’s what’s happening:

New living costs requirement for the Student route

From Tuesday 11 November 2025, all students applying for a Student visa have to show an increased amount of maintenance funds.

The new requirement is now £1,529 per month for up to 9 months. If you’re applying for a period of study longer than 9 months, you’ll need to show £13,761. This is in addition to any outstanding tuition fees.

We recommend that you use our interactive guide to get more information about the new financial requirements.

The Graduate route is changing

From Friday 1 January 2027, the permitted length of the Graduate route will be reduced from 2 years to 18 months for students who complete a bachelor’s/master’s degree in the UK and apply after this date.

This change doesn’t affect applications made before 2027, nor does it affect students who complete a PhD/other doctoral qualifications as they’ll continue to receive 3 years of permission.

You can find more information about these changes through UKCISA News.
