Staying in London over the summer? At this time of year, the city comes alive - you only have to walk along the Southbank when the sun’s out to experience it. Here's a roundup of our top free things to do to help you make the most of this summer.
Outdoor cinema
Everyman on the Canal returns this summer, catch a selection of new favourites and cult classics at their free waterside screenings in Coal Drops Yard, King’s Cross.

There’s also a free outdoor cinema at Waterloo’s Lower Marsh on the last Thursday of June, July and August.

West End Live
Enjoy a fun weekend of live performances at West End Live in Trafalgar Square on 20 and 21 June. Entry is first come, first served but there are also screenings in Victoria Embankment Gardens across the weekend if you can’t get in.

London Pride
This year’s Pride in London parade is taking place on Saturday 4 July. The city-wide parade runs from Hyde Park Corner to Trafalgar Square. As well as joining the crowds in soaking up the atmosphere along the march route, you can check out the performances across the stages in Trafalgar Square, Leicester Square, Soho Square and Dean Street.

Notting Hill Carnival
Notting Hill Carnival is a celebration of Caribbean culture that transforms the streets of west London into one of the world’s largest street festivals. Taking place on the 30 and 31 August, music, colourful parades, dancing, good food and good vibes are guaranteed.

Festival season
While headliners at London festivals like BST, Wireless, All Points East and Lido draw crowds, there are more budget-friendly ways to enjoy live music this summer. Check out work or volunteering opportunities at the bigger festivals by searching online. As well as the experience gained, you might get to see some of the acts after your shift.

King’s Cross Summer Sounds sees Coal Drops Yard transformed for free concerts every evening from 7 – 17 August.
Accessibility: Coal Drops Yard has ramp access and accessible toilets. Seating at King’s Cross Summer Sounds is limited. The nearest tube station is King’s Cross St Pancras.
Golder's Hill Park Summer Concerts are free performances throughout the summer in a picturesque setting. Taking place from June to August, check the website to see what’s on.
Accessibility: Hampstead Heath has accessible toilets and there are surfaced paths to the bandstand.
