At King's, your feedback is a vital part of shaping university life. By participating in surveys, focus groups, student representative meetings and KCLSU campaigns, your input helps us make positive changes to improve the student experience.
By listening to your voice, we've taken action to further support your academic journey, career aspirations and wellbeing. We've also used your feedback to develop new ways to celebrate our diversity, build community, and improve campus life.
Here's how your insights are making a difference:
Improving your assessment experience
In September, we updated our Mitigating Circumstances policy to ensure it is more inclusive, accessible and fair for everyone. Personal Assessment Arrangements (PAA) are now the most common reason for mitigation, demonstrating how physical & mental health conditions are now better supported through the PAA process. In the last three years, the number of forms submitted has decreased by 4,495.
We've reduced the penalty for late submission of coursework which has been set 10 or more days before the deadline. This means your coursework isn't automatically capped at zero if you've submitted late.
We've added a grace period to online exam submissions to account for any technical issues which occur.
We're working to balance your assessment load by reducing excess and adding where needed. We are harmonising our assessment tariffs meaning work of equal lengths has equal or similar weighting. For example, a 3,000 word essay should have equal weighting across modules. This means the effort you are putting in is getting the same level of recognition. We continue our efforts to make marking criteria specific, spread assessment deadlines as much as possible, and provide more timely and high-quality feedback to help you understand what you’ve done well and how to improve.
Supporting your studies
We’ve updated our Personal Tutor dashboard making it easier for your tutors to get in touch, stay in touch, keep track of your progress, and connect you to our support services.
In September 2025, we updated our module feedback and evaluation policy to introduce more opportunities to provide feedback during the module rather than at the end. This means it shapes your learning, not just the next cohort’s. We’ve also reduced the length of module evaluation surveys so it’s less time-consuming for you.
We continue to offer online and in-person activities and one-to-one sessions with academic tutors to help you develop your academic skills. This includes time management, essay writing, presentations, dissertations, and more. Over 10,000 students engaged with these services in 2024-25 alone.
Our Libraries also offer study support (e.g. Citing and Referencing, Evaluating your Sources), as well as tailored learning pathways by Faculty. Most recently they have introduced a ‘Critical Use of GenAI’ to help you use AI in your studies with confidence, learn how to craft prompts using different generative AI tools, explore a prompt engineering framework and alternatives to common uses of genAI.
Our Essential Digital Skills Programme helps you navigate our platforms and learn the digital skills required to support your academic, professional, and personal development. Over 15,000 students have enrolled on the course since it launched.
We've also increased the King's Living Bursary for students joining in 2025-26 onwards.

Supporting your career journey
Digital degree certificates are now available for all King’s undergraduate and postgraduate taught students who graduated after 1 July 2025, making it quicker and easier for you to verify your credentials with other higher education institutions or employers.
Every year, our careers events offer opportunities to discover, focus or action your career ambitions. These include fairs, masterclasses, networking events, workshops, and more.
In summer 2025, we launched our first series of in-country careers events in mainland China and Hong Kong SAR to support our current and future students from or with an interest in working in the region. Over 1,500 current, former or prospective students met with over 100 employers across Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
Our King’s Edge programme continues to evolve, offering new opportunities to practically apply what you are learning in the classroom in new contexts, or to learn a completely new skill. Approximately 200 students took part in our King’s Undergraduate Research Fellowships in 2025, with each receiving up to £1,500 to work with our academics on their research over the summer. Meanwhile, our new Summer Skills programme offered over 400 students opportunities to work with local organisations in sustainable fashion, the music industry, community tech aid and arts & education sectors. The programme also offered language classes in British Sign Language, Japanese & Mandarin, as well as creative workshops aiming to reduce food waste on our campuses.
We frequently expand the range of technologies available to support your career goals:

- Graduates First: a platform which provides access to numerous practice psychometric tests and personality questionnaires that are used by employers at different points of the selection process to measure the ability, aptitude and personality of candidates.
- Shortlist.Me: a free video interview service provides feedback to help improve your performance.

Supporting your wellbeing
We’ve made significant investments in counselling, mental health and wellbeing services to ensure more timely and inclusive support. We continue to focus on bringing wait times for services down while maximising awareness, availability and engagement with our additional and online support.
- King's offers an online support service called Spectrum.Life that you can use at any time. The free and confidential service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you can get support when our services are closed including evenings, weekends and outside term.
- Our counselling and mental health teams introduced a new podcast, Talk Therapy, bringing together counsellors, student officers, student reps, and staff to share their experience and insight on counselling and mental health at King's.
- We've introduced Health Advice for Mandarin Speaking Students (HAMSS) and King's Talk Club; a safe, non-judgemental space for male students to talk about any issues they're facing hosted by two King's counsellors.
- Our Disability Support and Inclusion team has reduced its wait times to under 7 days, and our Student of Concern process ensures at-risk students are supported within 48 hours.
- Faculty Wellbeing Advisors offer year-round appointments, and our Take Time Out Hubs supported over 2,000 students in 2024-25 alone.
We’ve introduced ‘Relaxed Graduations’ for a more accessible experience, expanded wellbeing training for staff, and our Money, Housing and Advice team secured over £1.5 million in funding for students last year.
The Libby Digital Reading Platform promotes reading for pleasure, with over 10,000 checkouts since February 2024.
We’ve enhanced support for students with disabilities by streamlining King’s Inclusion Plans and Personalised Assessment Arrangements, and offering sunflower lanyards for those with hidden disabilities.
Celebrating our diversity
Our history month events, including Black History Month and Disability History Month, celebrate and empower our diverse community.
We launched our Black Excellence programme, designed to enhance the student experience for Black & Mixed Black heritage home undergraduate students of all years.
Through co-creation, we’ve added 63 titles to our collections via the Suggest-a-Book scheme, focusing on decolonisation and diverse perspectives.
In 2024, we introduced our Welcome Ceremony as part of our induction experience which celebrates our multi-culturalism and multi-faith community.

Building community & improving campus life
We’ve refreshed our Community Charter to reaffirm our values of inclusion and connection and support.
Our weekly free Community Breakfasts, a Community Fridge at Strand, and free lunches with our Chaplaincy aim to build community, improve wellbeing and support finances.
We’ve created resources for Parents and Supporters, introduced historical tours and ran a film club at the Maughan Library.
Our Welcome to King’s experience now includes bus tours, movie nights, a Vintage Clothing Fair, and mixers for commuter, mature and international students. In 2025, King’s Residences held an event where new students could pick up any appliances offered by former residents for free.
Each year, we look at how we can maximise the amount of study space across our campuses, adding as many new spaces as possible. Enhanced signage for better wayfinding has been introduced at Strand which will expand to other campuses in future years. The Bush House South West development is underway to provide more space for you to work, socialise and relax.
Campus safety has been boosted with the SafeZone app and the Report & Support process. Over 15,000 students have completed our new Keeping King’s Safe Together training modules, updated in 2025, to help understand, address and support anyone who experiences bullying or harassment.
Gym upgrades have helped lead to a 27% rise in memberships. These upgrades include a women-only space and extended hours for Ramadan.
