Redevelopment underway at Bush House South West Wing

Bush House South West Wing redevelopment projected image

During the summer, construction works started on our redevelopment of the South West Wing of Bush House at our Strand Campus. This is a big step in our exciting and ambitious plans to create a welcoming, adaptive and innovative space to support our student and staff experience.

Construction work began on 11 August, with the building due to open in September 2027. We are pleased to be working on the redevelopment with Kier, a leading provider of infrastructure services, construction and property developments.

We have worked closely with partners and agencies including Westminster Council to build a robust safety plan during the redevelopment over the next two years. While everything will be done to keep disruption to a minimum, during this time there will be construction staff and vehicles along the Strand pedestrianised area and in the South West Wing.

Keeping our community safe during the redevelopment works

Vehicles, including lorries, will need to access the Strand pedestrian areas on weekdays and some weekends. Keeping our community safe during this period is very important, and we’ll do this by ensuring:

  • Vehicle deliveries will only take place between 07.00-11.00 and 14.00-16.00.
  • Barriers will be erected to prevent pedestrians crossing when any vehicle enters the Strand / Montreal Place interchange.
  • All vehicles will be fully escorted by traffic control marshals at the front and rear of each vehicle, travelling at walking pace.
  • Vehicles will enter through the sliding bollards at the Strand/Melbourne Place interchange, entering the Bush House South West Wing construction site through Montreal Place. Westminster Council will not allow vehicles to enter from the western side of the pedestrian area next to Aldwych.

As with all building work, some noise will be inevitable. We will closely monitor this during the building works and keep it to a minimum where possible.
