Pride month is a way of recognising the influence LGBTQ+ people have had around the world. It's held in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969 when the modern movement began.
This year’s theme is Supporting trans & non-binary people and there is a range of events planned to support these members of our community.
Proudly King’s, our LGBTQ+ staff network, has events running through the month and will be representing King’s at the Pride in London Parade on Saturday 1 July 2023.
Below are some of the ways you can get involved, including joining the KCLSU LGBT+ Society.
KCL LGBT+ Society
The KCL LGBT+ Society is free for all students to join and exists to provide a fun, safe, inclusive and accessible environment for LGBT+ students and their friends to meet, campaign on behalf of the LGBT+ student community and promote awareness of LGBT+ issues.
Find out more and join on the KCLSU website.
Queer Identities Therapy Group
King’s Mental Health & Counselling Service is launching Queer Identities, an LGBTQ+ therapy group for students.
Queer Identities is a new, safe space for queer and questioning people to share their experiences and have therapeutic conversations about identity.
The group starts on Thursday 15 June 2023 at 13.00 –15.00 and will run weekly on Thursdays for 12 weeks.
It meets on the Strand Campus in Bush House South East Wing (SE), Floor 4.
If you’d like to attend, please register with King’s Counselling & Mental Health Support Service.
LGBTQ+ Careers
King’s Careers & Employability have a range of resources to support LGBTQ+ students in their career journey.
They explain the rights of LGBTQ+ students in the recruitment process and the workplace. They also connect you with Stonewall’s Workplace Equality Index, which ranks organisations based on their inclusion of LGBTQ+ staff.
Go to Careers support: diversity & inclusion for a wealth of support and information. You’ll need to login to KEATS to gain access.
