Rail strikes in May 2024

Rail strikes are due to take place from Tuesday 7 May to Thursday 9 May (the week of the May bank holiday). Please check before you travel on these days and seek out alternate transport arrangements, though do be aware disruptions will have knock-on effects to other services. 

Strike action on the National Rail network 

The following services will be affected: 

  • Tuesday 7 May: c2c, Greater Anglia, GTR Great Northern Thameslink, Southeastern, Southern, Gatwick Express and South Western Railway.
  • Wednesday 8 May: Avanti West Coast, Chiltern Railways, CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, Great Western Railway and West Midlands Trains.
  • Thursday 9 May: LNER, Northern Trains and TransPennine Express.

 

An overtime ban for union members across all companies will also be in place between Monday 6 May to Saturday 11 May which may lead to further disruption.

The university will be open as usual. If you are unsure whether your journey will be affected, please use the  National Rail  website and TFL journey planner  before you travel.

 

Travelling to your exam during a rail strike
