Award details
The objective of our Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) is to select motivated and curiosity-driven students and provide them with outstanding training, tailored flexibly to their individual needs and interests. We will equip them with the intellectual and technical skills that are needed for undertaking cutting-edge biomedical research and complement this with key transferable skills (including public engagement, business development and entrepreneurship) to ensure that they emerge as well-rounded scientists, prepared for their next career stage (whether in research or outside). Our excellent clinical setting will ensure all students benefit from an understanding of the context of medical research, helping develop scientists with a strong translational ethos.
MRC DTP Studentships - MRC DTP
The MRC DTP only offer 4-year fully-funded studentship awards; including a stipend, tuition fees, research training and support grant (RTSG), and a travel and conference allowance.
Stipend: Inside London stipend at UKRI MRC Rate. This is a tax-free payment made to the student based on the UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) minimum rate. An iCASE studentship award includes a £2,500 top up in addition to the minimum rate per year.
Tuition fees: The studentship award covers the full tuition fee amount per year, including any international fee rate.
Research training and support grant (RTSG): £5,000 per year. Can also be known as bench fees, this is a contribution towards consumable costs of training research students. An iCASE studentship award includes an extra £1,400 per year.
Travel and conference allowance: £300 per year. This is a contribution to the costs of attending scientific conferences, workshops or visits to collaborators.
Flexible Supplement: Available to students funded by the MRC, this can help fund a wide range of research and training activities.
iCASE: The iCASE (Industrial Collaborative Awards in Science and Engineering) studentships are designed to foster partnerships between academic institutions and industry or non-academic organisations. These studentships offer candidates the chance to engage in cutting-edge research that addresses real-world challenges while receiving high-quality academic training. iCASE studentship includes an industry placement at the partner’s premises of a minimum of 3 months.
Visa: Funding does not cover visa and healthcare costs, and therefore it is the responsibility of the student to cover this.
