Educational aims & objectives

This module aims to analyse how globalisation impacts on contemporary art production, mediation and display. Considering key debates posed by globalisation and its effects on artistic and curatorial practices, this course offers students the opportunity to engage creatively and theoretically with critical and creative art processes and global dynamics.

Students will consider contemporary art and curating within a globalised framework of transcultural relations. Particular attention will be paid to global South politics and case studies. This is the case of transcultural curating of Indian contemporary art, biennales and the global South, art, cities and cultures in Asia and questions of civil liberties and human rights with regard to Chinese contemporary artists' responses to Tiananmen Square protests.
