The Face-to-Face Pre-Sessional course is a full-time English preparation course for international and EU students who hold an offer for a degree at King's. It aims to improve your academic English and introduce you to the UK education system so that you're fully prepared for your degree. 

This course is ideal if you are a non-native English speaker, have received an offer to study an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at King’s and need to improve your level of English language to meet the requirements of your degree offer.

Why choose the Face-to-Face Pre-Sessional: 

  • Face-to-face interaction with teachers and fellow students
  • Regular personal feedback on your work and progress in tutorials
  • Full access to King's resources as a student of the university

Programme structure

  • You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars and classes, some of which will be online.
  • Participate in regular tutorials during which you will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss issues related to your studies on the course.  
  • Focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking English in an academic setting.
  • Develop useful academic skills like notetaking, library-based research, essay writing, discussion, presenting, critical reading and active listening. 
  • This is a full-time intensive course. A typical week includes contact hours, however, some weeks will see more contact hours than others.
  • You are expected to spend a similar amount of time on self-study.

Key terms

  • A lecture is a teacher-directed session focusing on key language and skills.
  • A seminar focuses on student discussion and help with assigned tasks.
  • A tutorial focuses on feedback and progress, generally a small group 3 to 4 students, tailored to your learning needs.
