The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) in Smart Medical Imaging at King’s College London and Imperial College London continues the successful partnership of two world-class institutions, to provide PhD training within an embedded hospital environment in Central London, with state-of-the-art research laboratories across the Universities, and in close interaction with the healthcare industry.
We offer an integrated PhD programme with a dedicated training programme in transferable skills, responsible research and innovation, and entrepreneurship. Each PhD studentship includes:
- Full tuition fees
- £17,285 tax-free stipend
- Generous allowance for research consumables, conference travel, international lab visits and industry placement
Applications are invited for September 2020 start from PhD candidates with a strong interest and high potential in multi-disciplinary research and training in medical imaging. A 1st class or upper second degree or Distinction in relevant subjects, including mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, chemistry, biochemistry, or biology, is required.

- Available projects: after confirming your eligibility for our programme, you need to choose which of our available projects you would be interested in studying. Only projects with prefix 2020_*** are on offer for September 2020 entry. You will be asked to list three projects in order of preference. You will be also asked to select an industry project. Please bear in mind that these lists are for indicative purposes only, and project preferences are not guaranteed.
- Apply for Biomedical Engineering and Imaging Science Research MPhil/PhD (Full-time) using our online application portal: applicants must complete and submit an online admissions application, via the King’s Apply system. You will need to register an account to log onto the system.
