Summer Programmes FAQs

The following information provides details and answers on any questions that you may have about King's summer programmes in 2020.

General Information for Undergraduate Applicants

Can I study online for Session One and Session Two?

Yes. Please state clearly on your application which modules you would like to study in which session.

How many modules am I able to study?

You can study a maximum of two modules  one module per session. Each undergraduate module requires a commitment of 150 hours study time over three weeks.

Will I get credit for studying at the Undergraduate Summer School?

Modules can often be taken for credit towards degrees at other institutions, and are examined to university standards. To receive credit for King's summer programmes, contact your home institution to ask them to award external credit. Our modules are typically equivalent to an undergraduate degree module and usually awarded 3-4 US credits or 7.5 ECTS.

Do I need a visa to study on the Undergraduate Summer School?

No, our programmes are delivered online for 2020 and students are not required to travel to attend.

Where are classes held?

Classes are held online through Microsoft Teams, Zoom and on-demand content is available via King’s E-learning and Teaching Service (KEATS).

What is the best way to stay in touch with the Summer Programmes team? 

If you have a question concerning an application that you have submitted please email the admissions team through your King’s Apply account.

The Application Process

Am I eligible to apply?

To see if you are eligible see this page.

I'm a mature student, can I still apply?

Yes, of course! Modules are taught at undergraduate level.

What documents do I need when applying?

You will need an academic transcript from your home institution, evidence of English language proficiency and a personal statement. If you have already completed an undergraduate degree, we are able to accept a degree certificate as proof of qualification.

After Application

How long will it take for me to get a decision on my application?

You should receive a decision in seven working days as long as you have provided us with all the relevant documents. If we require more information, we will be in touch.

I've received my offer how do I confirm my place?

To confirm your place on the summer school you will need to log into King's Apply and pay your fees within 14 days of receiving your offer.

Does an offer from the summer school guarantee me a place on my preferred module?

Places on modules are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so the sooner fees are paid and your place is confirmed the higher likelihood that you will be offered your chosen module. Confirmation of modules will be sent to students after the application deadline.


 

General Information for Pre-University Applicants

Will I get credit for completing the Pre-university Summer School?

The Pre-university Summer School is not credit bearing. Each student will receive a Record of Achievement at the end of the programme. This is awarded for the completion of a group presentations and an individual written assignment. 

Will participation in the Pre-University Summer School enhance my application for Undergraduate study at King's?

Applications for undergraduate study are assessed independently by the King's Admissions team and, as such, no preferential advantages are given for participation in the programme. However, the programme demonstrates an interest in your subject and dedication to study that can be explored in your personal statement.  

What does a typical day look like? 

We are confirming the detail of the timetables for this year's summer programmes. You will be able to see the student handbooks and pre-course information in June 2020.

When will I receive a timetable?

A detailed timetable for each course will be available on King’s E-learning and Teaching Service (KEATS) from June 2020. You will be given instructions on how to access this once you have confirmed your place.

General Programme Updates

What happens if King’s cancels my summer module? 

A list of modules that will be taught online can be found here. If your chosen module does not appear please contact us via your King’s Apply account for advice on the next steps. You will have the option to: 

  • ·         enrol on an alternative module, if available 
  • ·         defer your place to 2021 or  
  • ·         request a refund of fees.  See our COVID-19 Refund Policy

What should I do if I am unable to get a certificate to prove my English proficiency?

Our English requirements are listed here. If you are unable to obtain a certificate due to COVID-19 disruption, please contact us via your King’s Apply account and we will consider your individual case. 

When is the payment deadline? 

The payment deadline is two weeks from the date of your offer. 

The acceptance deadline on my offer has passed. Can I still accept the offer? 

We can extend your offer deadline. Simply contact us via your King’s Apply account for advice. 

I have submitted an application but haven’t heard anything. What do I do? 

Please contact us visa your King’s Apply account for information on your application status and advice for next steps. 

I have accepted an offer for a residential programme which is no longer available. What do I do?

Please email us via your King’s Apply account for advice on your individual circumstances.
