Once you have passed all the relevant exams you are entitled to have your AKC read out at your graduation ceremony and wear the AKC epitoge as part of your academic dress.
If you complete the AKC in the same year as your graduation ceremony, your details will be sent across automatically to the Ceremonies and Events team who will ensure the epitoge is attached to your gown when you are checked just before you walk across the platform.
If you completed the AKC in a previous year, you are strongly advised to contact the AKC office 8 weeks before your ceremony so that we can ensure your name is sent across to the Ceremonies and Events team. This is particularly important for MBBS, BDS, LLB English and French or English and German Law students, and PhD candidates.
You do not need to have been elected by the Academic Board to graduate with the AKC epitoge.
Election: How to become an AKC
Once you have completed the AKC and graduated from your main degree programme, you will be elected as an Associate of King's College. After you have been elected as an Associate of King's College by the Academic Board, you will be entitled to use the letters AKC after your name.
The Academic Board meets 4 or 5 times each academic year, normally in November, December, February, April and June. You will automatically be elected at the next scheduled Board meeting following the completion of your degree. After the board meeting has concluded, we will write to you to confirm your election and issue you with your election certificate.
