Teaching activities were mainly contributions to postgraduate courses in Neuroscience and Addictions, and the supervision of MSc and PhD projects. Ian Stolerman also established and managed the Institute-wide Personal Tutor scheme for MPhil/PhD students from its inception up to September 2009.
As part of his efforts to raise the profile of the discipline of behavioural pharmacology, Ian Stolerman was a founder of the European Behavioural Pharmacology Society and became its first chairperson (President) in 1986. From 1992 to 2005 he was Co-Editor of the journal Drug and Alcohol Dependence and served as President of the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors for 2004-2006. He is now Editor-in-Chief of the Encyclopedia of Psychopharmacology which is scheduled for publication by Springer-Verlag in 2010. Awards have included the Meritorious Service Award of the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (USA), Excellence in International Leadership award of the US National Institute on Drug Abuse, and Distinguished Achievement Award of the European Behavioural Pharmacology Society.
Note: Professor Stolerman has retired from his role as a supervisor for PhD students and postdoctoral research workers.
