International Political Economy (With Reference to the Middle East)
Dr Kamel is open to supervising doctoral theses on subjects concerned with contemporary Middle Eastern political and economic issues, chiefly those relating to Iran, Iraq, Egypt, and Libya, as well as those relating to EU and US policy towards the region. Further, he would also be interested in supervising theses relating to theories concerned with the International Political Economy and Peace and Conflict Studies.
Dr Kamel joined the Defence Studies Department (DSD) as a Lecturer in September 2013. Further, Dr Kamel has been an Associate Staff Member in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies since September 2015, also at King's College London.
His current research projects are concerned with political and economic issues across the Middle East, with a focus on EU and US foreign policies towards said region. These research projects have resulted in various books and articles published in peer-reviewed journals, as well as comments in the media.
Dr Kamel holds a PhD in Middle East and Mediterranean Studies from King's College London (2013), an MSc in International Relations (2009), and a BSc in Economics with Management Systems (2008).
Dr Kamel also has over five years combined experience of providing advice to various international government agencies, working as an analyst for an international economic consultancy organisation and as a member of the steering committee for a nuclear policy focused NGO. Prior to joining DSD, he taught modules on the BA in Economics course at the University of East London.
