How can people-to-people diplomacy between Europe and China be strengthened? This talk will critique traditional models of European China engagement and outline how the development of a nascent civil society enables European actors to partner with Chinese civil society organisations. The EU-China Civil Society Dialogue Program on Participatory Public Policy (2011-13) will be introduced as a venue for intercultural dialogues between European and Chinese citizens.
Dr Andreas Fulda is Senior Fellow at the China Policy Institute and Lecturer at the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies, University of Nottingham. He is also Programme Manager of the EU-China Civil Society Dialogue Programme, a dialogue and delivery initiative funded by the European Commission, co-funded by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and implemented by the University of Nottingham and its six consortium partners in Europe and China from 2011 until 2013.
