Eligibility
The King’s MedTech Accelerator programme is open to Early Career Researchers, including research fellows, postdocs, clinicians, support staff, and late-stage PhD candidates, with a medical technology in development in the lab at King’s College London. Alumni of King’s having graduated within 2 years of programme start are also eligible to participate.
- Technologies should be at a minimum proof of concept stage.
- Researchers should be actively looking to explore the commercialisation or licensing of their technology.
- Applications are accepted from both institutional and non-institutional IP.
- Postdocs and PhD candidates must have support and approval from their Principal Investigator or research supervisor to be on the programme.
What We Offer
The King's MedTech Accelerator provides:
- Commercialisation and entrepreneurship training tailored for medical and healthcare technologies, including workshops on intellectual property (IP), funding & investment, healthcare business models, and regulations.
- Facilitation of networking with strategic advisors, medical innovators, healthcare leaders, industry partners and early-stage investors that can provide guidance and connections.
- Pitch preparation and refinement for participants to showcase their commercial potential to external stakeholders.
- Connection to additional translational programmes, incubators, and seed funding sources to further advance post-accelerator.
Programme Outcomes
Through the King's MedTech Accelerator, participants will gain:
- Entrepreneurship skills for advancing medical technologies through commercialisation frameworks for product-market fit, business model development, and stakeholder mapping.
- Practical commercial development experience for healthcare technologies, including regulatory considerations, healthcare economics, value proposition design, and market analysis.
- Capacity to assemble interdisciplinary teams, seek funding and partnerships, and effectively communicate to navigate the MedTech venture journey.
Available Support
The King's MedTech Accelerator provides a host of programme elements enabling researchers to advance their MedTech ventures, including:
- 3-hour commercialisation skills masterclasses led by industry and academic specialists on topics like IP, market access, health economics, regulation, funding.
- Monthly venture review sessions to evaluate progress and gain strategic feedback from peers and expert panellists.
- Hands-on access and use of coworking office space facilities at the London Institute for Healthcare Engineering (LIHE).
- Opportunity to pitch technology ventures at a Showcase Demo Day to executives, corporates and investors.
