Graduate Outcomes Survey

GOS Logo

The new Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) is a national survey capturing information about the perspectives and activities of graduates 15 months after you complete your studies.

Every graduate who studies in the UK is surveyed after they graduate to help  current and future students and universities understand more about how different degree courses lead to different career and further study choices.

From 2018, the Graduates Outcomes Survey replaces the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) survey - whilst similar, you will now be surveyed approximately 15 months after you graduate as one of four quarterly cohorts.

This survey is conducted on behalf of the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), and involves an online or telephone questionnaire which will ask whether you are working, studying, travelling or undertaking another activity and how your degree helped prepare you for your current role.

King's uses this information, in an anonymised format, to produce regular statistics on the destinations and activities of students by course, department or faculty.  This allows us to:

  • help students on current programmes understand better what their career and study options might be
  • support academic staff working with students to connect their academic experiences to their longer term success
  • inform prospective students of how their degree might open up future career and study choices

Data Protection & Privacy Statement

King’s College London is required by law to pass details of all recent graduates to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) for the purposes of conducting the Graduate Outcomes Survey (GOS) at approximately 15 months after your graduation date.

The processing of this information is conducted on the basis of public task outlined in General Data Protection Regulation (the "GDPR"), Article 6(1)(e).

The following is taken from the HESA website (at April 2018):

  • Meeting the requirements on providers to give information to public authorities with responsibility for funding and regulating higher education in the UK. This applies to the collection, transfer and onward use of both contact details and survey responses, by HE providers, the survey contractor, HESA and HESA’s statutory customers.
  • Making available to the public accurate and transparent data on the outcomes of publicly funded and subsidised higher education.
  • While there will be no compulsion on graduates to complete the survey, any survey response data will be processed under the public interest grounds described above and not processed on the basis of consent.
  • Survey response data will only be processed by HESA and its customers for research and statistical purposes and will not be used to make decisions about individuals.”
