Take your PhD in one of the few departments dedicated to the study of comparative literature in the UK.
You can explore literature from across six continents, in 12 languages, spanning over 2,500 years. Uniquely in the UK we cover modern European and non-European literatures as well as the literatures of European classical antiquity.
Our research interests include modern and classical literatures in European languages and the modern languages of India, sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.
Our specialist research focuses include literature and mental health, politics and literature in the Middle East, India and sub Saharan Africa, literature and the visual arts, literary geography and gender, sexuality and literature.
Our research students also have the option to take up Graduate Teaching Assistant roles as part of their PhD.
