Our Research

The Department of European and International Studies produces world-leading research in the fields of European studies, International Political Economy, and European and international politics and affairs. We have a wide range of expertise from modern languages and critical theory to political science, international political economy and heterodox economics. Through the activities of our research groups, we provide specific expertise in research designed to understand the European and global order.

Our research contributes to academic scholarship and impacts public life, with staff actively engaging policy-makers and politicians around the world. We have thriving postgraduate and early career researcher communities through which we are developing the next generation of scholars capable of tackling the European and global challenges of tomorrow.

Publications

EIS researchers publish in leading academic journals across a range of social science disciplines as well as high-quality research monographs and edited volumes. In addition to academic publishing, EIS researchers produce in-depth research and policy reports, newspaper and magazine articles as well as public interest blogs.

Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence

The Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Next Generation EU-UK Relations is aimed at exploring the different dimensions of the relationship between the EU and the UK. These range from diplomatic relations, to commercial, financial, defence and migration issues.
