A very warm welcome to the Department of French at King’s College London.
The Department of French here at King’s provides a vibrant and friendly learning environment. Its greatest asset is its community of people: the teaching and research staff, the professional services teams, and, of course, our students. The decision to study French at university reflects an enthusiasm for the French language and francophone literature, culture and history, an enthusiasm shared by all members of the Department of French. Our department is currently ranked as the #1 French department in London and is in the top five French departments in the UK (Complete University Guide, 2019).
What makes studying French at King’s special is our passion for learning and research combined with an unparalleled diversity of options for study. We offer an extensive range of topics, incorporating politics, history, francophone literatures and cultures, from the medieval period to the present. With us, students can explore exciting new areas of study, be challenged and stimulated by the breadth and depth of options available, as well as perfect their knowledge of the French language. We are proud of the consistently high NSS scores we receive for our teaching: In 2018, nine out of ten Department of French students said that "staff made the teaching of French interesting", and in 2019, 95.5% of our final year students agreed that our staff "are good at explaining things".
We are always keen to share our expertise with you whatever your stage of study, and I am sure you will find all members of our department approachable and helpful.
