Widening Participation
The French Department is committed to widening participation by opening up to under-represented groups and supporting them in accessing higher education.
We work with a range of state schools in and around London to support language learning and promote university-level study. As well as inviting school groups to King’s on a regular basis for workshops and study days, we run a teachers’ network and frequently visit schools to give talks and taster classes.
We participate as a department in the summer schools for prospective students from state schools and less advantaged socio-economic backgrounds. These take place at King’s and offer year 11 and 12 students the opportunity to experience university life and meet current students and staff.
The programme of activities is designed to inspire and challenge participants through interactive workshops, hands-on research, film screenings and trips to local cultural institutions. It also includes a careers workshop with the chance to network with former students, and support with applying to university.
We are particularly keen to engage mature students and are always happy to invite prospective applicants to visit us in the department and sit in on a class.
