Our research

Health and illness have crucial social and political dimensions – raising profound social, political and ethical challenges in all regions of the world. Our research engages with these issues through conceptually rigorous empirical research with important practical and policy implications.

We are ranked within the top 10 sociology departments in the UK, and 100 percent of our research impact is judged to be world-leading or internationally excellent.

King’s has historically been at the forefront of medical research and teaching – our departmental research culture builds on this excellence to extend health research in a social context. We do this by exploring the new issues raised by developments in biomedicine and beyond.
