Scholarships

When applying to join us, it is important you consider the financing of your tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of your course. There are different possibilities for obtaining financial support, including scholarships offered by the School of Global Affairs and its consistuent departments.

Scholarship opportunities

 


Undergraduate Degree Award

One award, valued at £9,250, is available for full-time entry onto one of our relevant undergraduate courses. The awards will be paid in instalments over the duration of the degree. Subject to enrolment, a payment of £3,000 will be made in Year 1, Year 2 and £3,250 in Year 3.

 

Relevant courses:

All students applying for the appropriate full-time course are eligible for this scholarship, including UK, EU and overseas students.

The scholarship will be awarded through assessment of academic performance. We welcome applications from students able to demonstrate their potential to succeed on their chosen programme. For undergraduate UK applicants, the university will use contextual information to gain a more complete picture of their individual and educational context.

There is no separate application procedure for the scholarship. All individuals who have submitted a complete UCAS application no later than 25 January 2023 will automatically be considered for the scholarship.

Applications that are incomplete on receipt (eg missing personal statements, references or predicted grades) will not be considered for the scholarship.

The award only covers part of the annual tuition fees and applicants should ensure that they have sufficient means to cover the remaining tuition fees, as well as maintenance costs.

To be offered the award, you must also meet the following criteria: (a) accept King’s offer of a place as your firm (first) choice; (b) meet the conditions of your offer (if you firmly accept an unconditional offer you are automatically deemed to have met the conditions of your offer); and (c) enrol as a full-time student on the appropriate course.


Continue at the School of Global Affairs, Postgraduate Bursaries

Twelve awards of £2,000 are available for King's graduates for September 2024 entry onto one of our in-person master's courses within the School of Global Affairs

 

Relevant courses:

Only King's students in their final year of the listed undergraduate courses in the School of Global Affairs are eligible, irrespective of whether they are from the UK, EU or overseas.

Applying to a relevant in-person master's course.

We will identify our top candidates based on previous academic performance, relevant experience (where appropriate) and the personal statement. We welcome applications from students able to demonstrate their potential to succeed on their chosen programme. The university may use contextual information to gain a more complete picture of their individual and educational context.

There is no separate application procedure for the bursary. If you have submitted a complete application by midnight (UK time) on 31 March in the given year, you will automatically be considered for the bursary. If there is a high volume of candidates, applicants may be invited to complete an additional supporting statement to the School.

A fully completed application includes a complete online application form and all supporting documents. This includes personal statements, Record of Agreed Results to date, references and IELTS certificates where appropriate. All materials must have been submitted via the Postgraduate Admissions Portal by the due time and date.

The relevant panel will decide the top candidate and award the bursaries. The successful candidates will be notified by early September at the latest, to include all results for the given year.

The award is a one-off bursary payment. Applicants should ensure that they have sufficient means to cover the tuition fees, as well as maintenance costs.

To be offered the award, you must also meet the following criteria: (a) accept King’s offer of a place as your firm choice and pay the deposit; (b) meet the conditions of your offer (if you firmly accept an unconditional offer you are automatically deemed to have met the conditions of your offer); and (c) enrol as a student on the appropriate course.


Global Health & Social Medicine Postgraduate Scholarship

The Department of Global Health & Social Medicine is offering one master’s award, valued up to £11,760 (Home fees), for 2023/24 full-time entry for one student onto their relevant in-person course.

 

Relevant courses:

All students are eligible, including those from the UK, EU and overseas.

The top candidate will be selected based on previous academic performance, relevant experience (where appropriate) and the personal statement indicating reasons for applying to the particular course.

There is no separate application procedure for the scholarship. If you have submitted a complete application by midnight (UK time) on 31 March in the given year, you will automatically be considered for the scholarship.

A fully completed application includes a complete online application form and all supporting documents. This includes personal statements, transcripts, references and IELTS certificates where appropriate. All materials must have been submitted via the Postgraduate Admissions Portal by the due time and date.

A departmental panel will decide the top candidate and award the scholarship. The successful candidate will be notified by 15 May at the latest in the given year.

The award is a one-off scholarship to cover tuition fees at the Home rate. Applicants should ensure that they have sufficient means to cover maintenance costs, as well as the remaining tuition fees if assessed as paying the overseas rate.

To be offered the award, you must also meet the following criteria: (a) accept King’s offer of a place as your firm choice and pay the deposit; (b) meet the conditions of your offer (if you firmly accept an unconditional offer you are automatically deemed to have met the conditions of your offer); and (c) enrol as a student on the appropriate course.

 


 

Richemont International Scholarships

The African Leadership Centre is pleased to offer one master’s award, valued up to £13,380 (Home fees), for 2024/25 full-time entry for one student onto the MSc Global Leadership and Peacebuilding. The award will also cover the £400 cost of the Leadership Weekend Workshop that is a compulsory component of this programme. The funding has been provided by Richemont International, a long-term friend of King’s and the African Leadership Centre.

Relevant courses:

African students in the UK applying for the full-time programme who will be present in London throughout the academic year. The students must be of African heritage and must be eligible for home fees. Please note that recipients are expected to cover their living costs throughout the programme.

The award is open to African change-makers within their communities who are interested in any and all aspects of Global Leadership and Peacebuilding. Applicants should be clear about why studying this programme will help them enact transformative change within Africa.

The top candidates will be selected based on merit and the overall standard of their applications.

All applicants should complete the King’s online application process for the MSc Global Leadership & Peacebuilding. The personal statement submitted for the MSc application must include:

• a brief sentence stating that you have also applied for this specific award;

• an explanation of how you intend to fund your studies if you are unsuccessful for this funding.

Applicants also need to submit a 1-2 minute video recording of themselves to alc@kcl.ac.uk. Videos longer than 2 minutes will be deleted and not considered for applications. The video should include the applicant explaining:

• why you are applying to the programme;

• why you consider yourself an African (e.g. by birth, family heritage, citizenship etc);

• what you see as the most pressing global leadership and peacebuilding challenge that is relevant to Africa;

• the change you want to make in relation to that issue in Africa;

• how you see the content of the MSc programme as helping enable you to make that change.

When sending the video, please include your application number and the title of the funding that you are applying for in the email subject title.

Degree awarding fellowships

This fellowship is available to young African scholars interested in pursuing research and academic careers in peace, security and development.

It includes post-graduate study at King’s on the Global Leadership and Peacebuilding MSc programme. Applicants will need to create a King's Apply account and apply under the Peace and Security Fellowship Programme.

The deadline to apply is 30 April, 2024, 23:59 EAT.

This fellowship is available to young African women, particularly from conflict-affected contexts, interested in pursuing research, policy and practise careers in the field/s of peace, security and development and with an emphasis on leadership.

It includes postgraduate study at King’s on the Global Leadership and Peacebuilding MSc programme. Applicants will need to create a King's Apply account and apply under the Peace and Security Fellowship Programme.
