The King's modelling group is one of the UK's leading providers of detailed dispersion modelling assessments, detailed urban emissions inventories and is increasingly working on research into the health impacts and toxicity of air pollution.
The head of the group, Dr Sean Beevers is a senior lecturer within the
MRC centre for Environment and Health and with colleagues has developed research interests which include:
- Improving King's modelling capability by developing CMAQ-urban (Beevers et al., 2012), which is capable of modelling hourly air quality concentrations from European scale to local road scale
- Expanded King's road traffic emissions inventory capability to include the whole of Great Britain
- to demonstrate of the applicability of dispersion models for human exposure using advanced (hybrid) exposure models and working with epidemiologists to investigate spatio-temporally the association between air quality and a range of health outcomes including:
- COPD, Stroke, child lung function and cardiovascular risk markers, primary care consultations, hospital admissions, adverse reproductive outcomes and mortality.
