IPS Tissue Culture Facility
The IPS Tissue Culture Facility is comprised of 2 laboratories in the Franklin-Wilkins Building and is managed by Dr Richard Parsons. The Facility supports projects in many aspects of the pharmaceutical sciences and is used by all the scientific research groups in the Institute.
Typical studies include:
- culture of human cells to model the epithelium of the intestine and the lung. These models are used to study drug delivery and absorption.
- cell-based bioassays to evaluate pharmaceuticals and compounds derived from plants for biological activity
- culture of hepatic cells to study drug metabolism and the toxicity of alcohol.
