Career paths

On graduating from King's music department, I spent several months working with the education team at The Royal School of Church Music. This was an interesting transition into music administration, and gave me a chance to develop skills from my degree, such as communication, organisation and critical thinking, in a full-time professional environment. At the start of my career, I benefitted greatly from the continued advice and encouragement from my lecturers at King's. I quickly found a fulfilling career working for Tarisio, an online auctioneers and the leading international venue for selling fine instruments and bows. With offices in London, Berlin and New York, and a worldwide client base, I enjoy exciting travel opportunities and a role that helps to facilitate sales to and from internationally renowned musicians, dealers and collectors. The transferable skills gained in my music degree have been invaluable in helping me to quickly adapt to a fast-paced and intellectually challenging role.
Martha Woodhams, who graduated from KCL in 2017, is now General Manager & Head of Auctions for Tarisio's European offices.

The breadth of the courses at KCL was enormously useful. It was in fact the more surprising module choices that did most to broaden and benefit my musical outlook. Importantly, the link with the Royal Academy meant I was able to keep up a high-level of vocal study alongside the main academic focus of the course. Being in the centre of London also meant I could take my first steps in the professional singing world alongside my undergraduate studies. The Chapel Choir has fostered an enviable reputation of nurturing young singers and it provided me with a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills both as a consort singer and a soloist.
Tenor James Way graduated from King's College London in 2014. He was awarded the 2016 Simon Sandbach Award from Garsington Opera, named ‘most promising singer’ at the Dean and Chadlington Singing Competition, and is a former Britten-Pears Young Artist. He is currently represented by Maxine Robertson Management.

The range and diversity of the modules, the opportunities to make music in central London, and the means of access to employers made the next steps of my career very clear, and my time at KCL exciting and enjoyable.
After graduating from KCL in 2017, and spending a year as Recording Intern and Recording Studio and Production Coordinator at the Royal Academy of Music, Rosanna Goodall was appointed Assistant Producer for the BBC Singers
