MRI scanning

Neuroimaging reveals human brain structure and function, and real-time activity. It has identified key changes underlying neuropsychiatric conditions. We lead the world in neuroimaging research, pioneering new hardware and software including a unique “head only” scanner design and a range of silent MRI techniques, both of which are in collaboration with a major MRI manufacturer.

The National Institute for Health Research and Wellcome Trust have jointly funded an imaging unit within King's College Hospital, designed exclusively for clinical research. This allows researchers to carry out unique and novel clinical studies incorporating functional, EEG and pharmacological MRI experimental techniques.

Resources:

  • Two whole body, research-dedicated, multi-modal MRI scanners with a third to be installed during 2020
  • An additional 'head-only' MRI scanner, providing both enhanced technical specifications and improved participant comfort, to be installed during 2020
  • A 'mock scanner' that can be used for acclimatising participants to the scanning environment
  • Potential for simultaneous EEG, tDCS and other approaches
