We work with King’s innovators to maximise the impact of their discoveries by:

• Protecting IP
• Striking licensing deals with industry
• Supporting founders to spin out companies with private equity investments. 

We champion a diverse portfolio of breakthrough technologies and innovations from across all King’s faculties and institutes, including:

• Healthcare (including diagnostics, therapeutics and medical devices)
• Physical sciences (IT, telecommunications and robotics)
• Social sciences, arts and humanities

In 2019, we won the PLG ‘Licensing Deal of the Year’ award for a licence to Merck, described by the Financial Times as ‘the most valuable [deal] achieved by a British university for a specific drug development programme’.

We work side-by-side with the Translational Research Office and Industry Partnerships Office to offer specialist advice to King’s researchers that extends across all faculties and disciplines.

We support King's researchers by: 

• Assessing intellectual property rights associated with potential inventions and discoveries
• Intellectual property and commercialisation strategy
• Marketing King’s technologies to potential partners
• Deal negotiation and all transactions for licences or spinout investments

We are responsible for all commercial transactions, including spinouts negotiations:

• We lead on discussions with potential investors
• Drive forward marketing interactions
• Prepare heads of terms and term sheets
• For founder-led spinouts, discussions are driven by the founding team with potential investors, with advice from our innovation experts.

Our work with industry centres on promoting King’s IP assets by:

• Going out to market with IP opportunities for external companies
• Negotiating for collaboration and/or licensing deals
• Managing all commercial transaction activity
