Research

The Department of Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies comprises seventeen research-active staff and nineteen Postgraduate Research Students.

Spanish, Portuguese & Latin American Studies has recently attracted major grants from the Arts & Humanities Research Council and the Leverhulme Trust for collaborative projects and research positions. In 2016 a team of academics led by Professor Catherine Boyle was awarded almost £3 million under the AHRC’s Open World Research Initiative for the Language Acts and Worldmaking project, to lead research that will inform the future of the study and teaching of Modern Languages.

Our Postgraduate Research students benefit from an annual research allowance and can be considered for a Baroness Marjorie von Schlippenbach graduate bursary.
