Secure Futures

Secure Futures sets out the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy's (SSPP) role in addressing the challenges shaping our world. It is a vision of a more secure future, enabled by the knowledge, expertise, and imagination that social science provides. Our work in SSPP shapes secure futures and a better world for students, societies and governments through:

Learning for the future 

• SSPP provides a high-quality focussed education that students need to flourish after their degree. 
• Our education blends traditional academic excellence with situational learning, taught by academics who often have direct professional expertise of their subject areas. As a result, our students gain critical thinking, practical experience, and a wider sense of social responsibility. 
• We’re re-shaping our teaching to adapt to a changing world, focussing on technology, AI, data science, cyber security and economics, interweaving strong subject expertise with innovative approaches to teaching, research and real-world problem solving, providing practical skills to build a more secure future.

Research for solutions

• SSPP researchers continue to develop solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including economic resilience, climate adaptation, political stability, fairer societies, conflict prevention and technological innovation.
• From our London base we are in a strong position to do this, combining a global outlook with well established relationships across government and key industries. We bring expertise across a wide range of disciplines, enabling us to address complex issues from multiple perspectives, setting us apart from many other organisations.
• SSPP expertise in conflict, post conflict and national security complements our strengths in areas such as climate change, international relations, global health and political extremism. 
• This breadth of knowledge makes us a trusted and influential voice on today’s most pressing global challenges.
