Entry requirements

Entry requirements for MBBS students:
King’s students must have passed Stage 1 and Stage 2.
External students must have first time passes for years 1 and 2 and all SSCs.

Entry requirements for Dental students:
BDS students are required to pass year 2 at the first attempt and year 3 or 4 if applicable.

Entry requirements for Veterinary students:
Veterinary students are required to pass year 2 at the first attempt and year 3 if applicable.

International applications

This year we are happy to accept applications from applicants who are attending Medical Schools outside of the UK, subject to the following criteria:

- International applicants must be studying a Medicine qualification that is the equivalent of a UK MBBS degree. Whilst we allow applications from Dental and Veterinary schools within the UK, we cannot extend this to applicants applying from outside the UK
- International applicants must have been studying this programme for at least 2 years
- International applicants must meet Band B English requirement
- Applicants must be attending a Medical School that has genuine equivalency with the programme at King’s. There are two ways that we can check for this:

o If the country in which you are attending Medical School has signed up to the WFME accreditation programme, your medical school must be on this list.
o If the country is not on this list, your application will be passed to our Admissions tutors who will assess the curriculum that you are currently being taught for equivalency. King’s reserves the right to make a decision on whether an individual university has a programme that is a genuine equivalent to its MBBS programme.

Important information for student visa holders:

Under the requirements of UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI), students visa holders who wish to add an intercalated programme will need to extend their visa. Internal students can request this via Student Services Online.

External Candidates studying at a non-UK and Ireland institution who would require a Student Visa for their Intercalated study cannot enrol without providing either:

• Written confirmation from your University that your programme is taught AND examined in English, OR
• Valid evidence of meeting our ELR band B.

If you do not have either document at time of application and you are made an offer, this will be made conditional on meeting the above requirement alongside completing your current year of study.

To process your application, we will need...

1. An academic reference from your School or University.

2. A transcript of all marks achieved so far, including any mid-sessional marks from the current year.

3. Written approval from your University permitting you to intercalate at King’s. (Provisional permission, normally subject to you passing the current year of study, is acceptable). We reserve the right not to consider your application until we have confirmation of that permission.

4. A relevant personal statement which also indicates your second choice of programme, if applicable.

5. For applicants currently studying in the UK & Ireland, a copy of your sponsor letter (e.g. Student Finance England or NHS Bursary Notification of Award letter) or tuition fee invoice for the current academic year. Please note this is not required for students currently studying outside of the UK & Ireland.

We cannot process applications without this information.

All offers of a place on an intercalated BSc programme at King's College London are conditional on you successfully completing all elements of your current year of study at the first attempt.

To confirm successful completion of all elements please submit an official academic transcript via King’s Apply by the deadline in your offer.

Upon receipt of this transcript your offer will become unconditional.

Applicants can only submit one application but should express a second choice programme in their personal statement.

For students applying to King's from another university:

There is no set format, template or length for your academic reference although different institutions may have their own local templates.

In general the letter should:

- Be from your personal tutor or another member of academic staff who knows you well
- Be provided on letter headed paper
- Include the full name and signature of your referee
- Comment on your progress so far during your studies, any outstanding achievements and other qualities that the referee considers relevant (for example your attitude towards colleagues, interest in a particular area of study, extracurricular activities etc).

Admittance to an intercalated BSc programme only guarantees a place on modules that are core to that programme. Optional modules and research projects may have limited places and be subject to additional selection criteria.

Where you have been granted replacement examinations due to mitigating circumstances and receive the results from the replacement exam prior to the deadline in your offer your offer will remain. If you are required to repeat the year you would need to re-apply for the intercalated BSc the following year.

Although offers are conditional on passing all elements of your current year of study at the first attempt, we may still be able to consider you for a place on the programme if you have resat and passed at the second attempt by the deadline in your offer. This will be at the discretion of the Admissions Tutor for the programme and will be dependent upon vacancies available. You should still send us your results by the deadline in your offer so that this can be referred to the Admissions Tutor for review. If you had any mitigating circumstances relating to the resits please inform the Admissions team via King’s Apply so that this can be taken into account.

Yes, you may still apply. However, if your home institution will not grant you permission to intercalate we reserve the right not to consider your application until permission has been granted. This may affect your chances of getting a place on your chosen programme. As soon as you receive permission please send this to the Admissions team via King’s Apply.
