Teaching methods - what to expect
Year 1: 120 credits earned through:
- Two 15 credit compulsory modules [War Studies]
- One 30 credit optional module [War Studies] and
- One 30 credit compulsory module [History]

All modules at Level 4.
Year 2: 120 credits earned through:
- Two15 credit compulsory modules [War Studies]
- 30 credits of optional modules [War Studies] and
- One 30 credit optional module [from History or intercollegiate modules approved by History].
- Two 15-credit optional modules [History or outside modules approved by History]
Year 3: 120 credits earned through:
- Two 30 credit optional modules [War Studies]
- Two 30 credit optional modules [History]
Such that all modules are at Level 6 AND
One of the Level 6 modules must include the dissertation module with either War Studies or History.
Other relevant information to explain the programme structure
Students can take one language module free of charge as part of their programme. This can be taken as additional credit in either Year 2 or Year 3, or as a for-credit module in Year 2 as part of your 60 credits of optional History modules
Intercollegiate teaching:
In the second year of study students may take one Level 5 Group II History module (30 credits) taught in other HEIs within the University of London.
In the final year of study students may take up to 60 credits from Group III History (Level 6) modules taught in other HEIs within the University of London.
Students are allowed to go on a study abroad for the second semester of the second year or the full third year for credit with approved KCL partners (arranged through the KCL Global Mobility Office), subject to qualifying marks. Students will receive credit for the study abroad, but marks will not contribute to the final degree classification.

Your performance will be assessed through a combination of coursework and written/practical examinations. Assessment methods will depend on the modules you have selected to study. Forms of assessment may typically include coursework and research essays, policy briefs, critical reviews, written examinations, individual and group presentations and a written dissertation. Informal assessments and seminar activities also form part of the course structure, and while not for credit, these are an essential component of the overall learning process that allows you to further your skills and to develop, evaluate and refine ideas and arguments.
