Biography

Education

Dr Mameli obtained a Laurea in Filosofia (Cum Laude) from the University of Bologna in 1997 (supervisor: Umberto Eco). He was awarded an MPhil in Philosophy (1999) and a PhD in Philosophy (2002) from the University of London (supervisor: David Papineau).

Previous appointments

Dr Mameli was Jacobsen Fellow in Philosophy at the London School of Economics and Political Science, Department of Philosophy, Logic and Scientific Method (2001-2003). He was Research Fellow in Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at King's College Cambridge (2003-2007).

Current appointment

Dr Mameli joined the Department of Philosophy at King's College London in 2007. At King's, he is also the Chair of the MSc in the Philosophy of Mental Disorder and a member of the Psychiatry, Nursing and Midwifery Research Ethics Committee.

Learned societies

Dr Mameli is an elected member of the Council of the Royal Institute of Philosophy.

Editorial boards

Dr Mameli is a member of the Editorial Board of the academic journal Topoi.

Research interests
  • Philosophy of Science (especially: Philosophy of Biology, Philosophy of Psychology, Philosophy of Psychiatry)
  • Bioethics, Neuroethics, Ethics of Science and Technology
Dr Mameli's research interests are primarily in the philosophy of science (in particular, philosophy of biology, biomedicine, psychiatry, and cognitive science) and philosophical ethics (in particular, bioethics and medical ethics).

He collaborates with the European School of Molecular Medicine and the IFOM-IEO Biomedical Research Centre in Milan.
