MA Film Studies
This highly-regarded degree is concerned with the advanced and in-depth analysis and interpretation of a worldwide range of cinema and audio-visual media, their social and political contexts and effects, and the intellectual and philosophical currents which shape them.

The Curriculum
All students take the core module "Formations in Film Studies: An Advanced Introduction to the Field", which runs every autumn. They also take four option modules from a menu of options, spread across the autumn and spring. Finally, they complete a dissertation, which can be an entirely written work or a combination of written work and audio-visual creative practice (a short film or video essay). Intercollegiate options are offered through the University of London Screen Studies Group (Birkbeck, Goldsmiths, KCL, LSE, QMUL, Royal Holloway, SOAS, UCL). View the modules on offer.
Places on modules are limited, so if you wish to take one of the SSG modules please let the administrator at your home institution know as soon as possible and they will liaise with the partner organisation to determine whether there is space available.
