Children and young people

There are 21 million children and young people worldwide living with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions, and this number is predicted to continue rising. This highlights the growing need for palliative care services to provide essential support to these children and young people, as well as their families and caregivers. Despite this urgent need, it is estimated that 90% of children who could benefit from palliative care never receive it.

At the Cicely Saunders Institute, we strive to address this gap by investigating the evolving needs and preferences of children and young people. Our work is driven by innovative, dynamic and inclusive engagement activities that ensure children and young people’s voices are at the centre of our efforts. Through our collaboration, we aim to develop, evaluate and implement interventions that enhance paediatric palliative care services and improve their accessibility.
